Cyber-forensics, also called computer forensics or digital forensics, is the process of extracting information and data from computers to serve as digital evidence for civil purposes or, in many cases, to prove and legally prosecute cyber-crime. The Songer Institute is committed to meeting the growing need for expertise in cyber-forensics by providing up-to-date and in-depth training for law enforcement professionals, and graduate and undergraduate students pursuing careers in the forensic sciences.
Songer has developed programs to include Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science. Students involved in our Forensic Studies program learn how to be forensic specialists who can conduct investigations and examine evidence for so that they can present this evidence in front of criminal or civil law cases.Six potential tracks of study from this program include Accounting, Criminalistics, Computer Forensics (i.e., Cyber-Forensics), Interdisciplinary, Investigations, and Legal Forensics. Based on personal interests and career aspirations, students can choose which track they want to follow. These tracks can be developed further from the current base of courses already developed or repurposed into Certificate Programs.
The Songer Institute curriculum and program can be offered either fully online or be taught using a hybrid format.The program seeks to help students develop marketable skills sought after by public and private sector employers and the justice system. From technical and core competencies to critical thinking and effective communication, this program helps to teach students the foundational competencies of Forensic Studies.
